Albuquerque Half Marathon #3 of 12 for 2019

Albuquerque Half Marathon #3 of 12 for 2019

I love running the ABQ half marathon. This is my 4th time running the race, my first time being in 2008, 11 years ago! The race is put on by Runfit, a not for profit organization in Albuquerque, NM. I try and run most of their races as they let my running club at school run the 1k kid races for free. They love to help promote exercise to children in the community.

This year the race was on April 13, 2019. The race starts about a mile from the Montano bridge on the Westside. Once you start the race you run a mile to the Montano bridge and run on the bike/walking path over the bridge to the North Valley. Once I was half way over the bridge I thought it might be raining, but wasn’t sure if I was just sweating too much or if it was lightly raining. After we crossed over the bridge we turned and started running on a ditch bank. It was raining.

The race goes through the North Valley after crossing the bridge. It runs through small residential roads. The race ends at a local elementary school, Alvarado Elementary.

For the most part the race is flat. The rain made the road slippery, but for the most part I was able to run the pace I wanted. I ended the race at 1:54:20 almost the same time as my last race in February. #3 of 12 for 2019 done!

The race has a shuttle bus that takes runners back to the start that runs every 10-15 minutes. It’s a nice accommodation to the race, especially for people that don’t have spectators there to drive them back to their car.
